What Does Hyundai Auto Hold Do?

If you own a Hyundai, you’ve likely discovered all kinds of unique features and capabilities. But, there’s a good chance you aren’t aware of them all. There is one in particular that we want to show you today, and that is the Auto Hold function.

The Auto Holda function is a feature in new Hyundai models that you may not even know exists. In many cases, that probably just means it’s doing its job, as there is nothing you really need to do to activate this feature. Let us explain.

Auto Hold Benefits

foot by brake pedalThe Auto Hold function is a part of the electric parking brake system, and it operates in a similar way. Rather than activating the parking brake, Auto Hold will take over to ensure you remain in one place when activating the parking brake yourself doesn’t make sense.

Here’s how it works. Let’s say you roll up to a stop sign, apply your brakes and come to a complete standstill. The Auto Hold feature will register the brake pressure that was applied to bring the car to a stop, and if you were to take your foot off the gas, it will hold the brake pressure in place.

The reason this feature exists is to make sure that your vehicle doesn’t unexpectedly roll forward or backward. For example, let’s say you’re stopped on a steep incline with a car behind you. In many cars, if you were to let off the brake, the car would immediately start to roll backward before you can apply the gas pedal. With Hyundai’s Auto Hold function, however, the brake pressure will remain applied until you apply your foot to the accelerator.
