Hyundai Earns Two Podium Spots at 24 Hours of Nurburgring
24 hours, 25 kilometers, and two spots on the podium: that’s what Team Hyundai took on at the famed Nurburgring raceway. Hyundai competed in the 51st Allegemeiner Deutscher Automobile Club TotalEnergies 24h Nurburgring race earlier this year, managing to secure first and second-place spots in Germany’s most challenging racing circuit. Nearly 130 cars took on the self-proclaimed longest and most difficult raceway over day and night to earn the honor and prestige of the Nurburgring.
Which two Hyundai teams earned top spots at Nurburgring?
Hyundai secured a first and second-place spot on the podium during May’s race. The first team, consisting of Mikel Azcona, Marc Basseng, and Manuel Lauck, took their place for the second year in a row. This year, though, they beat their own record by two laps – a huge accomplishment on the nearly 15-mile circuit – which earned them the top spot in their class of racers.
One of the biggest accomplishments, though, went to the second-place team of Taylor Hagler, Michael Lewis, Mason Filippi, and Harry Gottsacker. The Bryan Herta Autosport team took on the challenge of placing with the No. 831 Elantra N TCR. It was a long road to the podium, both literally and figuratively; this was the sixth visit to Nurburgring for the BHA racers in less than two months after their determination to conquer the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. The second-place spot took a lot of preparation and collaboration with Target Competition, who won both this year and previous years at Nurburgring’s 24-hour race.
The race is a true testament to Hyundai engineering. Not just any vehicle can withstand such a grueling race, especially one that goes on for 24 hours straight. But withstand they did, proving that Hyundai Motor America is a top contender. BHA plans to defend their title and come home with another win at the next IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge that takes place on June 23. Take in the action for yourself as we root for Team Hyundai to snatch another win at Watkins Glen International 120.
