The Sonata Looks Brand New for the 2024 Model Year

2024 Hyundai Sonata Powertrain and Feature Changes

We may not even be halfway through 2023, but we already have news for the 2024 model year. In fact, it’s big news, as Hyundai has unveiled the new Sonata. 

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is undergoing some significant upgrades for its 8th generation, including new features and improved powertrains. Before we dive into those details, however, we have to recognize the significant design changes as well.

2024 Sonata Design Updates

The Sonata has a new styling that gives it an aggressive couple-like appearance, despite seating up to five passengers. This was previewed through leaked images not long ago, but now it has become official, with Hyundai unveiling the model online. Perhaps the highlight of this new styling is Hyundai’s Seamless Horizon Lamp and wide-set headlights. 

The former is a light bar that stretches the length of the front fascia, accentuating the width of the vehicle. The wide appearance of the Sonata is accentuated even further with the N Line model, featuring a larger front grille area. It also boasts 19-inch wheels, a rear spoiler and dual twin-tip mufflers. Inside, N Line models come with red accent stitching and some unique performance features like Rev Matching and Launch Control.

New Sonata Features and Engines

As for new features, there is a lot to explore. To start with, the 2024 model has improved powertrains that include a pair of 2.5-liter engines, one of which has a turbocharger, and a 2.0-liter hybrid powertrain as well. Hyundai has not yet revealed detailed performance numbers for these powertrains, though they have said that the 2024 model features “improved” options. This would lead us to believe we may see more horsepower than the 180 or 191 horsepower featured in previous models, though only time will tell for sure.

Inside, you’ll find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, as well as a 12.3-inch touch screen display for access to navigation and audio controls. There is also a head-up display that projects critical driving information on the windshield ahead of you. The software for these systems is updated “over the air,” meaning you do not need to bring your car to a dealership to receive the latest system updates. 

If you like your music, then you’ll also love the Sonata’s new sound system. It is a 12-speaker system from Bose that has been tuned and calibrated to deliver a high-end sound experience from within the vehicle.

Elsewhere, the new Sonata features advanced safety tech like Blind-Spot Collision Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and so much more. And last but not least, the 2024 Sonata features a first in its class… a power-operated trunk.
