What Car Should You Get for a New Teen Driver?

If you have a new teen driver in the family, you’re probably considering vehicle options for them. You could certainly have them share your vehicle, but often, that is not convenient. Whether it be hanging out with friends or driving to work, your teenager’s schedule may not work well with your own.

Of course, this leads many parents to consider buying a vehicle for their son or daughter. But what vehicle should you go with? There are certainly many to choose from, leaving you with lots of decisions to make. Should you opt for a sedan or a crossover? Which models are the safest? Which vehicles offer the best features for a young driver?

There’s no doubt that we have our own opinion on this, but you may want to hear from someone other than a dealership with “Hyundai” in its name… because a Hyundai model is exactly what we would choose. We aren’t the only ones, though.

Best Cars for Teens According to U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report regularly puts together lists of the best vehicles in certain categories, including a list that names the best cars for teens. Though there are other brands included on that list, Hyundai showed up more than any of them, with four total vehicles.

The list includes both new and used cars, as you may prefer a more budget-friendly option for your child’s first vehicle. The list also organizes vehicles by price range. The 2023 Hyundai Kona was named the best SUV for teens between $20,000 to $$25,000. The Hyundai Tucson was named the best SUV for teens between $25,000 to $30,000. The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe was named the best SUV for teens between $30,000 to $35,000. Lastly, the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid was named the best SUV for teens between $35,000 to $40,000. Below is the MSRP for each new vehicle listed:

• 2023 Kona, starting MSRP of $22,140
• 2023 Tucson, starting MSRP of $26,900
• 2023 Santa Fe, starting MSRP of $28,750 (SEL trim starts at $32,450)
• 2023 Santa Fe Hybrid, starting MSRP of $36,210

As for used cars, the publication recommends the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. The former is a midsize car and the latter a midsize SUV.
