Hyundai IONIQ6 Has the Highest Range of Affordable EVs

Profile of the 2023 Ioniq 6The term “range anxiety” never entered the lexicon until the emergence of modern electric vehicles (EVs). Because while there was always the possibility of running out of gas, a gas station could usually be counted on to be in the general area when the needle started approaching empty. Plus, you can’t return to your EV with a Jerry Can full of electrons. So even as the electric infrastructure improves daily, range can be of concern to those who occasionally break out of their daily commute to take their EVs on long trips. Thus, Rairdon’s Hyundai of Bellingham is proud to announce that Cars.com has found the Hyundai IONIQ6 to have the highest range of affordable EVs.

Interior Technology in the Ioniq 6The 18 Electric Cars With the Longest Range

Cars.com looked at 18 EVs currently on sale with published ratings by the EPA for the 2023 model year that offer a minimum of 300 miles of total driving range. Vehicles with manufacturer estimates but no EPA estimates were not included. While an individual’s range will vary based on their own driving style, location, and conditions, the EPA figures represent a baseline of comparison based on the exact same circumstances.

The vehicles vary in style and size, from luxurious SUVs and high-performance sports sedans to pickup trucks and practical crossovers. Multiple models had six-figure prices with a target market that probably tends to fly from city to city anyhow. Several others were in the $80-90K range. Only three had MSRPs under $50K, and among them, the IONIQ6 had the lowest price and the highest range. In fact, out of the 18 models, the IONIQ6 had the third-highest range. Above it were two luxury sedans, one costing about $90K and the other at about $140K.

Ioniq6 features the best range3rd Place For the Win!

Cars.com’s 3rd-place entry was the IONIQ6 long-range RWD model with 18-inch wheels. It has an EPA-estimated driving of 361 miles and an MSRP of $46,615, including a $1,115 destination charge. The AWD version of the same model – the more popular choice here in Bellingham for obvious reasons – has a range of 316 miles. Opting for the 20-inch wheels drops it down to 305 miles. That still puts the model under Cars.com’s threshold. The other models with MSRPs under $50K include the Tesla3, which fell just behind the IONIQ6 in range, and the Nissan Ariya, which came in 17th with a range of 304 miles for the FWD model. Neither of those cars has the IONIQ’s 800-volt electric architecture, which can enable 0 to 80% DC charging in about 17 minutes.

Ioniq6 features the best rangeUnclear is why the IONIQ5 did not make the list. With the same platform as the IONIQ6 but with a taller and thus less aerodynamic body, the IONIQ5 in long-range, RWD form is EPA-rated to have 303 miles of range.

Nobody but researchers want to test the range of these models to the last mile, of course, but this is just more proof that the most practical and affordable EVs can be found here at Rairdon’s Hyundai of Bellingham.
