Charging North America

It isn’t difficult to find a gas station in North America. They’re just about everywhere, because cars need gas and we take our cars everywhere! This has certainly been one of the hurdles for driving zero-emission driving adoption across the country. More and more electric vehicles are being built each year, but there are still a ton of detractors not ready to make the jump to electrification. The time required to charge a vehicle coupled with their limited range is definitely a talking point, and one that many automakers are working to solve. In fact, seven massive automakers have just agreed to a major partnership that will see them build a high-powered EV charging network across North America to address this issue.

Seven Automakers Team Up

2024 IONIQ 5 Charging at Public ChargerThat’s right, a total of seven major automotive companies are teaming up and bringing their multitude of brands with them on this endeavor. The seven automakers include Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, Stellantis NV (which includes brands like Dodge, Jeep and RAM), General Motors (which includes brands like Chevy and GMC), the BMW Group and Honda. Each of these automakers and the brands under their umbrella will be working together to build this game-changing network across the country and into Canada.

The goal is to drive EV adoption and elevate the whole experience of owning and driving an electric vehicle. This network will introduce more than 30,000 charging stations across North America, with each station including multiple chargers to make long-distance driving more accessible. Naturally, even with high-powered fast chargers, you’ll likely be spending a bit more time at a charging station than you would at a gas station. So each one will be outfitted with convenient amenities from canopies to restrooms to food services and even retail options, plus even more at certain flagship locations.

We cannot wait to see these charging stations in their completed form, let alone customers stopping in to spend a little time charging and getting on their way. We’ll be paying close attention to this story as it develops and will be sure to add updates here on the Rairdon’s Hyundai of Bellingham website whenever they become available. In other words, check back often, but don’t hesitate to give us a call with any questions that you might have regarding Hyundai electric vehicles!
