Not only did the 2011 Hyundai Sonata win the first ever Presidential award, it also was awarded the Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent, nonprofit, scientific, and educational organization dedicated to reducing the losses - deaths, injuries, and property damage - from crashes on the nation's highways.

In order to receive the Top Safety Award the vehicle  must earn the highest rating of "good" in all front, side and rear crash tests, and it must be equipped with electronic stability control.
